A&E Biography: WWE Legends - Stone Cold Steve Austin

release year: 2021
genre: documentary
viewing setting: home streaming 3/3/24

synopsis: This documentary follows the entire life and career of one of wrestling's most influential and popular stars.

impressions: I remember very clearly when this first aired; I was in the worst stages of a ten-day hospital stay with an IV and a tube in me, weak and miserable...and this came on the TV in my room. I wasn't coherent through the entire thing but I always remembered that I liked what I saw, and would one day watch the documentary in its entirety. And now, more than three years later, I finally did. And I loved it. For those who don't know, Austin basically brought WWE back from the dead in the late 1990s, and also changed the face of the business by bringing a character and level of attitude that had never been seen before. Much of this special is his own words, but they also have clips from a number of others. It chronicles his entire career, from the days of obscurity in WCW to his heyday as must-see WWE TV, to his injuries and relatively early retirement, to the cost of him focusing on his career and success.

acting: n/a, but all of the interviews were well done and together they made a powerful narrative

final word: Great wrestling documentary focusing on one person, well worth seeing, and now I want to watch the entire series.
