Aliens Expanded

release year: 2024
genre: documentary
viewing setting: home Bluray 10/3/25

synopsis: This 4+ hour documentary explores various behind-the-scenes aspects of the classic 1986 film Aliens.

impressions: This is a high-quality independently-made documentary about a single movie. It doesn't deal with the other entries in the series (except tangentially, through references during discussion) and instead focuses on aspects of Aliens...and I mean ALL aspects. It's done through interviews with cast and crew, including most of the actors (except for Bill Paxton and Al Matthews, who were deceased.) They even got James Cameron to participate. The breadth and depth of the details and trivia here are enormous - again, this is more than four hours of footage. If you like the movie, you should check this out.

acting: N/A but the interviews are great; you can tell that the actors were and are really happy talking about their roles. Even the minor ones are enthusiastic and have a lot to say.

final word: This is a key piece of movie lore that all Aliens fans should see.
