Always Be My Maybe

release year: 2019
genre: romantic comedy
viewing setting: online streaming 2/14/22

synopsis: Two childhood friends who really like each other drift apart, but reconnect sixteen years later and realize they might have been meant for each other all this time.

impressions: I had a good time watching this. Each of them have their own problems, which they eventually identify and start to work on once the other one points it out. She's all business, and he's lazy and afraid to challenge himself; somewhere in the middle is the best place for them to meet. It moved along at a good clip, was genuinely funny, but also had some serious parts.

acting: Comedian Ali Wong is Sasha, a very successful celebrity chef. Randall Park is Marcus, an adult who's stuck in the past and finds excuses to not move on. Michelle Buteau is Sasha's friend and co-worker. Vivian Bang is Marcus' goofy girlfriend. James Saito is Marcus' aging father. Daniel Dae Kim is Sasha's fiancee, who doesn't want to commit to marriage and sets all of this in motion.

final word: Good, fun romantic comedy.
