American Pie
release year: 1999
genre: high school comedy
viewing setting: home Bluray 6/27/24 and home DVD 3/16/02
synopsis: Four guys make a pact to lose their virginity by the end of their senior year.
impressions: Crude but funny. The basic plot setup mentioned above allows for all sorts of hilarious antics. Each of the guys comes up with one or more plans to accomplish the goal, most of which backfire or set them up for embarassment. There are also various other characters who are trying for just about the same thing but have their own problems. It's highly entertaining and sometimes gross, but that's what should be expected from a good high-school sex comedy.
acting: Jason Biggs is the unconfident dork who makes some dumb decisions that make things worse. Thomas Ian Nicholas is the friend who can only imagine being with one woman no matter what. Eddie Kaye Thomas is the quiet, shy one who's trying to be cultured. Chris Klein is the jock who's learning a new side of himself. Seann William Scott is another jock who's super-obnoxious and crude and often funny. Alyson Hannigan is a dorky girl from the band. Chris Owen is a random geek who puts on a hell of an act. Shannon Elizabeth is a drop-dead-gorgeous exchange student. Eugene Levy is Jim's dad, who tries to help him when he can. Jennifer Coolidge is Stifler's mom, the original "MILF" when that term was coined by this film.
final word: Funny, well worth seeing.
