Anaconda

Danny: "What the hell is this?"
Serone: "Anaconda skin."
Danny: "There's snakes out there this big?"
Serone: "This skin is three or four years old, whatever shed it has grown since then."

release year: 1997
genre: monster horror/drama
viewing setting: home Bluray 11/25/21 and 1/12/18 and 12/7/14 and home DVD 6/9/01 and home laserdisc 11/14/97 and theater 4/17/97

synopsis: Film crew making a movie sails deep into the Amazon where, unbeknownst to them, a huge hungry anaconda lurks. They'd probably be okay except for the crazed white hunter who wants that snake's skin, and will screw up anything to get it.

impressions: This movie was not that bad. Really! It had suspense, it was entertaining, it had villains to root against, and the snake effects weren't too shoddy.

body count: 6

acting: Jon Voight goes completely over-the-top as a creepy bad guy, walking around with a perpetual sneering grin/frown; they never should have trusted him. Ice Cube...well, as my buddy Kevin said, "Hey, if Ice Cube got crushed by the snake, he'd be Crushed Ice!" Yep, it's true - we ragged on Ice the whole time; however, he actually did a credible acting job. Jennifer Lopez and Eric Stoltz are good as the leaders of the group, also those most likely to survive. Owen Wilson is some sort of idiot technician who's easily manipulated (and easily digested.) Last but not least, there's Kari Wuhrer, who's cute as a button and brings a fresh perspective to the movie's events.

final word: Good monster movie, worth watching.
