Aquarium of the Dead

release year: 2021
genre: horror/comedy
viewing setting: home streaming 9/18/24

synopsis: Some sort of faulty formula causes the denizens of an aquarium to attack.

impressions: At long last, we have something no one really clamored for: a movie about an aquarium full of living dead sea life. Unfortunately, it just wasn't well done. The acting ranged from decent to terrible, the sea creatures weren't really undead in any familiar sense, plus they weren't threatening (a shark out of water can't do much, for example...and killer _starfish_? Really?) There were also plot holes, like characters saying they see a bunch of hostile sea life and then reappearing after they apparently encounted it - missing scene, anyone? - and a locked glass door which no one considered using the fire axe on to escape. Some funny elements could be found here and there (including a reference to Sharknado) but overall this just wasn't that good.

body count: 8

acting: Eva Ceja is the main heroine, who's fairly competent. D.C. Douglas is the guy who's far less useful than her. Madeleine Falk is some sort of doctor, but her acting is inconsistent. Vivica Fox has a minor role as a relatively useless head of security.

final word: Barely watchable aquatic monster fare.
