Army of Darkness
release year: 1991genre: comedy/horrorviewing setting: home laserdisc, 1/19/98what I expected: n/a (seen it too many times)what I got: medieval warfare against an army of the dead
synopsis: Fresh from his tribulations in Evil Dead 2, Ash plops into the 13th century - where his quest to get home ends up being a fight against an army of living dead!
impressions: This is funny horror at its best, as only Sam Raimi can deliver it. We've got skeletons cracking one-liners, zombies making fun of themselves as they rot, 3 Stooges tributes, and so forth. There's not a minute of this movie that's not got something funny or neat to see, and it's one of those you really have to pay attention to.
acting: Well, there's really only Bruce Campbell as Ash, though many others do fine jobs.
final word: Hilarious and spooky, though seldom both at once.
rating: B
