Assasssin's Creed
"A man grows with the greatness of his task." - Alan Rikkin
release year: 2016
genre: action/drama
viewing setting: home Bluray 2/20/26
synopsis: A guy is saved from execution so that he can be used to link to the past and learn secrets to enable Templars to rule the world.
impressions: I don't know what I was expecting, but this was...underwhelming. Sure, it had plenty of action. Sure, it had time travel (after a fashion.) The problem was that it didn't really make sense - some things were never explained, and some peoples' actions didn't have any rationale I could understand. I suspect that die-hard fans of the video game series might have more insight, but as a standalone movie this was mediocre.
acting: Michael Fassbender plays two roles (modern-day confused dude and 500-years-ago badass warrior) and as always he does fine. Marion Cotillard is a scientist lady who needs to get her motivations straightened out. Jeremy Irons is her evil CEO father. Ariane Labed is another badass assassin in the past.
final word: An often-confusing action/fantasy story spanning two time periods.
