The A-Team: Recipe For Heavy Bread

episode number: season 2, episode 2 (1984)
viewing setting: home DVD, 5/25/05

episode synopsis: The team runs into a Vietnamese cook who helped them when they were POWs, and help save him from drug dealers who want him dead.

impressions: Pretty good episode, though I have to admit, watching the good guys take it easy on people who want to kill them (or in this case, were to blame for POWs being tortured and killed in Vietnam) is getting old. One wonders how this series would have worked in modern times, when HBO and other channels can create TV series with more violence and death.

notable guest star: Mako, who plays Lin Duk Coo here, is a staple of 1970s and 1980s martial-arts and action movies.

what the team builds in this episode: A makeshift armored van, using the metal wall panels of an elevator.

Hannibal wisecrack highlight: plays it tough on the golf course as he abducts a powerful mobster's son

B.A. toughness highlight: refuses to play nice when Face takes the team to a classy restaurant

Murdock insanity highlight: decides to form the Golf Ball Liberation Front and rescue all the poor, helpless golf balls in the world

Face scam highlight: he puts the team up in a snazzy luxury penthouse that he's living in thanks to an assumed identity

Amy usefulness highlight: gets intel on the mobster's son, also uses her cuteness to distract invading gunmen
