The A-Team: Where is the Monster When You Need Him?

episode number: season 4, episode 2 (1985)
viewing setting: home DVD, 2/12/07

episode synopsis: The team heads to South America to film one of Hannibal's monster movies, but comes up against the private army of a criminal in hiding.

impressions: This one used a film crew and props as a novel way to fight off a small army, but then changed into an attack on the criminal's home, and then an escape. It was okay, but unfortunately was another example of why the semi-serious tactics of the team don't really cut it against hardened criminals and dangerous foes. I mean, the bad guy was a master torture-doctor - they should have taken him more seriously!

notable guest star: Mike Preston, who was the leader of the "good guy tribe" in The Road Warrior, is a mercenary leader here. Walter Gotell (who played the Russian counterpart to "M" in many James Bond movies) is the torturer in hiding.

what the team builds in this episode: Nothing, but they use movie props, guns with blanks, blood squibs, etc to deceive the bad guys more than once.

Hannibal wisecrack highlight: Confronted by the main bad guy, he wisecracks and doesn't take him seriously.

B.A. toughness highlight: Wakes up on a plane and goes berserk.

Murdock insanity highlight: Acts like some famous hollywood stunt double.

Face scam highlight: Comes up with a truck for the team, despite being in a small, poor South American village.
