Austin Powers (International Man of Mystery)

release year: 1997
genre: comedy
viewing setting: home laserdisc, 10/24/97 and home DVD, 7/4/01
what I expected: comedy for old dorks
what I got: comedy for all dorks

synopsis: Thirty years ago, top British secret agent Austin Powers froze himself so that he could come back when his nemesis Dr. Evil returned. Well, it happened, and he has to stop Evil from doing bad things. If, that is, he can successfully adjust to the 1990s.

impressions: This movie was mostly about Austin trying to adjust to modern life, and the chaos thereof. It was mostly goofy, a parody of James Bond. There were some funny moments and lines, but it was no Airplane!.

acting: Mike Myers can act goofy - no doubt in my mind now. There's also Elizabeth Hurley, who's simply gorgeous.

final word: Fairly amusing, and it might appeal more to the older crowd.
