The Avengers

release year: 1998
genre: spy drama/comedy
viewing setting: theater, 8/3/98
what I expected: wasn't sure
what I got: highly British and overly wordy nonsense

synopsis: A renegade scientist has the technology to control the weather, and it's up to two British operatives to stop him.

impressions: I simply cannot believe that this movie was meant to be taken seriously. I just don't see it. It was slow, it made little sense, bad guys didn't kill good guys when they had the chance, and everything (dialogue, setting, clothes) was British. While this may appeal to some, it did not appeal to me.

acting: Given the framework, I thought that Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman did a great job of being British in every way.

final word: If the British really draw out everything the way it was shown in this film, they are welcome to their lifestyle.

rating: C-
