Avengers: Infinity War

"In time, you will know what it's like to lose. To feel so desperately that you're right. Yet to fail all the same. Dread it. Run from it. Destiny still arrives."    - Thanos

release year: 2018
genre: superhero action
viewing setting: theater 7/14/18

synopsis: Pretty much all the superheroes from every previous Marvel movie get together to try and stop an insanely powerful alien villain before it's too late.

impressions: This is the biggest one yet. It ranges all over the universe (other planets/realms) and features a bad guy that can't be topped. In a way, I wonder why Marvel had to ramp up the power/threat level so quickly, but I do get it: the actors will age out of their roles or lose interest, so it's better to burn the candle brighter for a shorter time. There are numerous group arcs moving in parallel here, and they all come together in the end. There's not much more I can say without spoiling things for one who hasn't seen the movie, but rest assured: Infinity War part 2 will have a major cliffhanger to resolve.

acting: I'm not going to list them all here - there are dozens and we've seen them all before. The most prominent roles to me were Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Paul Bettany as Vision, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. Josh Brolin is the main new addition: Thanos, a big purple alien of incredible power, who wants to gather the six Infinity stones and gain ultimate power.

final word: The biggest and most impactful superhero film so far.
