Battle: Los Angeles

"It has been clear that there has been no attempt at communication. No demands, nothing like that. So obviously, they are here for our resources. When you invade a place for its resources, you wipe out the indigenous population. Those are the rules of any colonization. And right now, we are being colonized." - newscaster

release year: 2011
genre: action/sci-fi
viewing setting: home streaming 1/29/23

synopsis: In the wake of a sudden attack by aliens, a company of Marines works to help evacuate and defend Los Angeles.

impressions: There were aliens, but this was a war movie, plain and simple. The experienced sergeant ended up guiding the inexperienced soldiers (and their officer) and doing the best he could in a tough situation. There were multiple instances of combat, tactics, leadership, weaponry, and more. The combat and special effects were realistic and looked great. One observation: the humans suffered from what I call the "Starship Troopers problem" meaning that they were physically overmatched by their enemy. Simply put, they needed bigger guns and better armor.

acting: Aaron Eckhart is the veteran soldier who does all the leading here. Michelle Rodriguez is a tough Air Force chick who joins the group. Ne-Yo (certainly not his borth name) is one of the more memorable soldiers. Michael Pena and Bridget Moynahan are civilian survivors who get rescued and accompany the soldiers on their travails.

final word: Fun and entertaining war movie with a sci-fi twist.
