Bed of Nails
release year: 2024
genre: horror
viewing setting: home Bluray 6/24/24
synopsis: Three pseudo-Goth kids on the way to Florida run afoul of rednecks, beginning an often-senseless cycle of violence and supernatural revenge.
impressions: This was basically I Spit on Your Grave meets The Crow. The basic concept was fine, but the execution wasn't always smooth. Aside from the early violence (which was of a type I never want or need to see) my primary issue was what I have come to call "runtime stretching." This is when a scene that could and should be short (like someone watching a body sink, or some clouds pass by in the sky, or someone pouring themselves a drink) are instead 60 or 90 seconds in length. If you do this enough, you can add more than an hour to your movie - and they did. Combine that with a number of unpleasant characters who have absolutely zero redeeming qualities, and you end up with something that's often tough to watch.
acting: Deanna Marine was the back-from-the-dead chick. Mark Francis was the thoroughly unpleasant and unlikeable leader of the evil rednecks. Wesley Moniaci was the most redneck of the rednecks.
final word: I don't think I'll ever need to watch this again.
