Bloodstone

release year: 1988
genre: action/adventure
viewing setting: home DVD, 7/13/99
what I expected: Indiana Jones cheese
what I got: basic low-budget comedic action/adventure romp

synopsis: A bunch of different people get involved in the hunt for a gigantic ruby.

impressions: It had both entertaining and stupid lines, scenes, and characters. The plot moved along fairly well, though there were a few minor oversights. I had expected a wide-scale adventure, but all of this took place in one city in India, and there was only one bad guy plus his thugs. No Nazis, no power of God, no spectacular special effects. In fact, they never elaborated on the curse of the ruby, and the fact that a dead princess' soul was supposed to be in it never came into play. And we never really cared.

reviewer quote: (after watching trailer, before watching movie) "You should be able to review this one after seeing just the trailer."

acting: High camp. Some of the lines that these people were given were just plain corny.

final word: Watchable, but no classic.

rating: C-
