Boar

"How was I to know we'd find a pig the size of a fucking rhino?"   - Ken

release year: 2017
genre: giant animal horror
viewing setting: home DVD 10/25/21

synopsis: A gigantic, aggressive boar is roaming the Australian outback.

impressions: For a bargain-bin five dollar DVD, this was a blast - definitely good value for the money spent. In addition to a killer wild animal, it had the always-entertaining Australian accents and wording, which were often funny. The boar is fairly realistic (and quite ugly too) and seems to wander the area, tearing down fences and killing/eating dogs, cows, sheep, and humans as necessary.

something this movie has that no other movie has: Boar-vision, in which we see things through a hazy, multicolored filter.

acting: Nathan Jones (a gigantic ex-wrestler) is both imposing and hilarious as one member of the family menaced by the boar. I find myself wondering if he could carry an action movie by himself, as he's definitely got screen presence and can deliver lines effectively. There are a variety of other characters (both family members and other people) with less-prominent roles.

final word: Pretty good "this could actually happen" style monster movie.
