Body Count

release year: 1998
genre: suspense
viewing setting: home laserdisc, 6/15/98
what I expected: didn't really know
what I got: a morass of death and betrayal

synopsis: An art heist goes wrong from the get-go, and the thieves have more and more trouble trying to unload the art while keeping from killing each other.

impressions: It started off good, got slow and senseless about 2/3 of the way through, then picked up at the end. Much of the problems could have been avoided if a certain character had just been killed...but I think we were supposed to hate that guy anyway.

acting: Ving Rhames was the lead bad/good guy; both he and David Caruso did good jobs as serious thieves. John Leguizamo did a good job as the irritating, idiotic one. Linda Fiorentino didn't show much as the woman they picked up on their way to Miami.

final word: Entertaining, good backstabbing drama.

rating: C
