Bullet Train

"There's something else going on here." - (several different characters)

release year: 2022
genre: action/comedy
viewing setting: home streaming 10/15/23

synopsis: A number of top assassins end up on a high-speed train in Japan, and their missions all eventually intertwine.

impressions: This was great - an action- and laugh-packed violence-fest in the spirit of Quentin Tarantino. This includes flashbacks and title cards and late reveals of plot elements. You'd better pay attention or a lot won't make sense.

acting: Brad Pitt is great as the primary protagonist, who isn't even there to kill anyone, just to retrieve a briefcase. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Brian Tyree-Henry are a team of British hitmen. Benito Martinez Ocasio is a revenge-seeking Spanish assassin. Joey King is an assassin who hides behind her youthful appearance. Michael Shannon is a Russian criminal overlord. Andrew Koji is a Yakuza enforcer who gets drawn into the chaos on the train. Hiroyuki Sanada is his mild-mannered father. There are others whose identification would mean spoiling things.

final word: A hell of a ride - absolutely the most fun anyone could ever have on a high-speed train.
