Bullitt

release year: 1968
genre: action
viewing setting: home DVD, 11/20/97
what I expected: dated cop action movie
what I got: slow movie with barely understandable plot and acting

synopsis: Star cop Bullitt must protect a witness from mob assassins.

impressions: This was another typical old action movie from the 60s/70s: mostly slow with a few good parts, and a lot of mumbled dialogue. I hate to say it, but there was never any attempt to show us who Bullitt was, why he acted the way he did, etc. Steve McQueen would just mumble one word or make a facial expression and it was like the viewer was just supposed to understand. Ech. This movie did have one good, long car chase scene, though.

acting: I wasn't impressed with Steve McQueen here. He did better jobs in other movies.

final word: Older watchers may appreciate it more, but to me, it was slow and confusing.
