Bull Shark 3

sheriff: "Most shark attacks are a result of cloudy water...that's why there are more shark bites than fatalities."
Spencer: "Not in this area, there aren't."

release year: 2024
genre: shark mayhem
viewing setting: home streaming 10/27/25

synopsis: Much planning and drama surrounds the simple mission to plant an explosive device at the bottom of a lake full of sharks.

impressions: Apparently this is the third in a series (the others having come in 2022 and 2024) and has some of the same characters and actors. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great...you can't have a killer shark movie with only two victims. And the "synopsis" I wrote above...really is the whole plot of this movie. There's an awful lot of talking and not so much action, which pads the running time and means less in-water scenes are needed (also less blood and gore, but I digress.) Some notable things in this movie: yet again we see big sharks attacking people in knee-deep water...shark effects alternate between footage of real sharks, CGI, and cheap-looking rubber fins...one shark swimming around upside down at one point...the claimed bull sharks actually not being or looking like bull sharks...a really dumb plan that involves one guy being in the water elsewhere to serve as a distraction for the sharks while the main guy does his dive to plant the bomb...said decoy being UNARMED and only having ONE OTHER PERSON with a gun there to help defend him...a shark that holds a boat propellor in its mouth to keep the boat from leaving...a silly fight between two characters that features goofy-sounding cries and grunts...a surprise guest at the very end. Overall, it wasn't a bad way to spend 76 minutes, but it could have delivered more shark attacks and action.

body count: a paltry 2...2! Come on, guys!

acting: Tommy Hallum is the guy they call on to do the dirty work, and he plays it super serious and successfully projects a take-no-shit attitude. Billy Blair is his goofy friend who is mostly annoying. Tiffany McDonald is a woman who knows a thing or two about sharks and also is constantly eating snacks. Chad Ridgely is the semi-evil mayor. Tom Zembrod is the sheriff.

final word: Decent but no shark classic.
