The Butcher

release year: 2006
genre: horror
viewing setting: home DVD, 8/4/06

synopsis: Six college kids on a road trip take a wrong turn, act increasingly stupid, and get slaughtered in the middle of nowhere.

impressions: High production values, decent idea, badly-written characters. I mean, these kids don't do a single thing that they should in any given situation. They constantly break every rule of the horror movie survival manual. Some of them do absolutely NOTHING to fight back as their killer-to-be approaches. Others, even after seeing repeated evidence that things are not right, continue to act like idiots rather than getting the hell out. The one main female protagonist was barely worth cheering for. I don't think it was the acting, I think it was the script. Final word: the ending was not only stupid but completely implausible.

something this movie has that no other movie has: A woman whose stomach, after being blown open, proves to be full of either dolls or fetuses (it wasn't possible to tell which.)

acting: As I said, the acting wasn't the problem, but rather the lines given to the actors.

final word: Barely-watchable backwoods-slasher fare.
