The Butterfly Effect 2

release year: 2006
genre: weird drama
viewing setting: home DVD, 9/28/08

synopsis: A guy loses his girlfriend and other two best friends in a freak car accident, then discovers that he has the power to go back in time...but the more he tries to "fix" things, the worse they get.

impressions: There are certain basic truths of the "weird drama" genre of the late 1990s and early-to-mid-2000s. The Final Destination series taught us that you can't escape death, and this series has taught us that no matter what you change in the past, nothing will ever be perfect. And that's the main thing to realize about this movie: you can fix one thing in life, or maybe another...but in the big scheme of things, something will always go wrong. Life isn't perfect and you can't fix everything. If the main character was smart, he'd have stopped trying once he had his girlfriend and other two friends back.

something this movie has that no other movie has: narco

acting: Eric Lively is Nick, the main guy. Erica Durance is his girlfriend. Dustin Milligan is Trevor, the friend who's not too bright.

final word: Interesting sequel/remix of the first movie (it is strongly implied that Nick is the son of the time-warping guy from the first movie.)
