The Cat in the Hat
release year: 2003
genre: kids' comedy
viewing setting: theater, 11/29/03
synopsis: In this kids' movie, a strange and wonderful cat appears to help two children learn to be more responsible and fun - by making the worst mess possible of their house.
impressions: This was just a hair shy of a G-rated movie for the little ones. I thought it was well-done but it's not really my mind of movie. It was very faithful to what I remember of the Dr. Seuss books.
something this movie has that no other movie has: thing #1 and thing #2
acting: Mike Myers generally produced laughs as the Cat. Both young kids did great jobs, one was the rebellious son, the other the too-serious girl. Kelly Preston was their single mom, and Alec Baldwin was her secretly-slimy boyfriend.
final word: A good one for the kids.
