Champions

release year: 1996
genre: martial arts
viewing setting: home DVD, 12/17/98
what I expected: cheese
what I got: constantly-moving action cheese

synopsis: A man sets out to avenge his brother's death by fighting in a to-the-death tournament.

impressions: As my roommate said, "Now this is what true cheese is all about." Yep, this movie offered heaping amounts of exactly what it advertised: fighting, fighting, and more fighting. The different fighters were even actually unique and interesting. We didn't expect nudity at all, which is why it was even better when we saw it - multiple times, multiple women. Oh, yeah.

acting: Danny Trejo (the knife-throwing bad-ass from Desperado) dominated this movie as the nasty bad guy. It was good to see him get a role he could sink his teeth into.

final word: Cheese, but very well-paced and entertaining cheese.

rating: C+
