Chris Rock: Bring the Pain

release year: 1996
genre: comedy concert
viewing setting: home streaming 10/30/23

synopsis: For an hour in 1996, comedian Chris Rock talks on stage about a variety of relevant topics.

impressions: By the time of this concert, Chris Rock was, well, on the rocks...his career had declined and he needed a comeback. This was it. Some of his humor centered around drugs, OJ Simpson, daying and relationships, and race relations. It had a lot of funny (and honest) moments, but may not be as funny to as many in 2023.

acting: n/a but he had presence here - a good balance of audaciousness/confidence and humor

final word: It's funny, but also a snapshot of things from its era, so some of it may be a bit dated now in the woke world of the 2020s.
