Clawed

release year: 2005
genre: Bigfoot cheese
viewing setting: home DVD, 7/3/06

synopsis: Despite some recent "wild animal" murders in the nearby forest, various people wander up there anyway. What they don't know is that there's a real live Bigfoot running around.

impressions: It had pretty good production values and acting, but the plot needed some work. No serious Bigfoot swats a victim on the head, then simply leaves so that the victim can later wake up and escape. I guess the single most glaring problem was that the movie trailer and box made this look like a blood-and-guts extravaganza with a high body count, but the monster really didn't kill many people, and they were all bad guys anyway. It's okay to make a nice toned-down monster movie, but you need to advertise it as such. Dammit.

something this movie has that no other movie has: A headless bear impaled on a high tree branch. That wacky Bigfoot!

acting: As I said, it was surprisingly good. The obnoxious jerk character was annoying, especially with his use of the camcorder at random times.

final word: Good try, but it was not exactly the movie advertised. If you live for Bigfoot movies, you probably need to see this.
