Cloverfield

release year: 2008
genre: giant monster horror/drama
viewing setting: home DVD, 6/21/08

synopsis: An hour and a half of camcorder footage serves to relay a giant monster's attack on New York, as experienced by people on the ground.

impressions: Imagine a Godzilla movie from the point of view of the average human on the ground looking up. Then make it a camcorder tape, cheap and badly shot. Result: this movie. Unlike a lot of the viewing public, apparently, I didn't get nauseated watching the shaky footage. I did get confused, as it's often hard to tell what's going on. In addition, the moronic character who had the camcorder for most of the movie said and did some really stupid things, which made the whole thing annoying to watch at times.

something this movie has that no other movie has: The Statue of Liberty's head rolling down the street.

acting: Bah.

final word: If you ever wanted to see what a giant monster attack would be like from below, this is the movie for you.
