Cocaine Bear

"That was so messed up! That little man was an expert on bears, but he didn't know that bear was the cocaine bear."   - Henry

release year: 2023
genre: killer animal action/drama
viewing setting: home Bluray 5/1/23

synopsis: The drugs from a botched heist fall into the wilderness, where they are promptly devoured by a large bear.

impressions: This was part-comedic, part-killer-giant-animal mayhem. The humor was often out there a little, with absurb situations and dialogue. Overall, though, it moved along and was quite entertaining. I felt like it was never too sure which characters could die suddenly. The bear was almost comedic at times, but (as always) no matter how a bear is acting, and no matter what your thoughts on bears...it's never a good idea to get too close to one.

body count: 10 (not all by bear)

acting: Keri Russell is the mom whose spirited daughter has vanished into the same wilderness that harbors the wild bear. Alden Ehenreich and O'Shea Jackson are minions sent by a drug lord to retrieve the lost cargo. Ray Liotta is over-the-top ruthless as that drug lord, who eventually decided to take matters into his own hands. Margo Martindale is an odd park ranger. Isiah Whitlock Jr. is a city detective. Brooklynn Prince and Christian Convery are the deep-south kids whose walk in the woods comes at a bad time.

final word: Humorous yet grisly bear mayhem.
