Cocoon

"Well, I'll tell you...with the way nature's been cheating us, I don't mind cheating her a little."    - Ben

release year: 1985
genre: drama/science fiction
viewing setting: home Bluray 2/12/23

synopsis: Aliens are quietly working on something, which ends up giving some residents of a retirement home renewed vigor and health.

impressions: This is a movie about aliens and their rescue mission, but it's also about old age and the chance to recapture youth. It's a fairly lighthearted drama with some science fiction and some comedic moments. There's also an interesting "what if?" situation posed at the end.

acting: Veteran actors Don Ameche, Wilford Brimley, and Hume Cronyn are the three older men who discover the apparent fountain of youth. Steve Guttenberg is the boat captain who ends up helping the aliens. Brian Dennehy is the leader of those aliens, and Tahnee Welch is one of them who took a particularly attractive female human form.

final word: Light, fun alien/drama fare.
