Children of the Corn 7: Revelation

"Where exactly do you guys live...and when do you live there?"    - Jamie

release year: 2001
genre: horror
viewing setting: home DVD, 6/7/22

synopsis: In search of her missing grandmother, a young woman travels to a derelict apartment building that has a cornfield nearby.

impressions: I'm not sure what they were trying to do here, but it wasn't much fun to watch. Most of the action takes place in a run-down apartment building where a total of five people live; it's in the middle of nowhere and has a cornfield. The main lady uses a laptop (and what was obviously 2001's version of email) despite there being no phone line and no mobile phone. Actually, pretty much nothing happened at all until about 23 minutes into the movie (and the first kill didn't happen until 28 minutes.) But the main thing...this one had ghosts. Well, they were ghosts sometimes, while other times they had physical presence. And these kids were evil, no doubt about it...but the explanation about why was incomplete at best, ditto for whatever the hell happened at the end. This series has devolved into a sad formula that looks something like "Okay, you have to include corn and crazy children, beyond that just do whatever the hell you want."

body count: 5 confirmed

acting: Claudette Mink is the main woman, and does fine with the material. Kyle Cassie is a helpful cop. Michael Ironside has a couple of brief appearances for no apparent purpose.

final word: Inferior entry in the series due to absolutely nothing standing out.
