Creature

release year: 2011
genre: horror
viewing setting: theater, 9/9/11

synopsis: Some stupid young people venture into the swap and end up dealing with a half-man, half-alligator monster.

impressions: It had some funny lines, plenty of gore, but...it wasn't a straight monster movie, and it was represented as such by the trailer, so I was upset. This had a healthy dose of Texas Chainsaw Massacre or The Hills Have Eyes - both the "let's go be victims" aspect and the "deranged backwoods people" aspect - and all that was intertwined with the monster story. Plus there was a major plot twist that wasn't to my liking - it didn't make complete sense. I guess what I'm saying is, either make a monster movie, or make a movie about deranged people, but don't mix those together and pass it off as a monster movie. Oh, and the ending was idiotic - after being repeatedly beaten by the monster, then the monster flees (still completely undamaged and healthy) and the surviving guy dives into an underground cave, emerges the next morning with his girlfriend and the monster's jawbone, and that's it? No. That's crap.

something this movie has that no other movie has: Severing of someone's feet with a machete for no apparent reason.

acting: Decent, for the most part, but I don't see movies like this for the acting.

final word: Disappointing, mainly because it wasn't quite the monster movie that its trailer made it appear to be.
