Creepshow 2

release year: 1987
genre: horror
viewing setting: home laserdisc, 5/13/97
what I expected: a cheesy sequel
what I got: pretty stinky cheese

synopsis: Three tales of horror are linked by a boy's plans to get revenge on bullies.

impressions: Maybe it was just me, but it sure seemed like this one suffered from an abundance of stupid characters. And guess what? They all got what they deserved. The first story was fairly standard, involving an Indian statue that comes to life and takes revenge on some punk kids. The second story was about four kids who go swimming in a lake in the middle of nowhere and get trapped by a flesh-eating blob. The third story deals with a spoiled rich woman who accidentally hits/kills a road worker, but can't seem to get rid of the body (probably because it keeps getting up and chasing her.) All in all, there was nothing overly special here, and in fact the first and third stories were somewhat stupid.

acting: Average to below-average. Maybe the script is to blame for this.

final word: Watchable, but not much more.

rating: D
