Crocodile Island
release year: 2020
genre: giant monster mayhem
viewing setting: home streaming 10/20/25
synopsis: A commercial airplane crashes in the Bermuda Triangle of Asia, and a handful of survivors must deal with the giant monsters on the nearby island.
impressions: Here we have another slick giant monster movie from China; they're like The Asylum except they take themselves a little more seriously (and it shows in the finished product.) The idea here is that there'a a remote island where things grow really big, although in the case of the crocodiles it was confusing...were there several, and of all different sizes? Or was there just one and the filmmaking was sloppy so it was different sizes at different times? i'd like to think the former. Oh, also, there were giant spiders and they played a big enough role that they probably should have gotten in the title too.
acting: I can't fairly judge acting in another language, but it was pretty good. Gallen Lo is the father who fights like hell to protect his daughter. Liao Yinyue is that teenaged daughter. He Qiwei is a guy who is only out for himself. The rest, I couldn't tell you because the characters' names weren't always given in the subtitles.
final word: Fairly entertaining and well-made giant monster action/drama.
