release year: 2005
genre: horror
viewing setting: home DVD, 8/27/05

synopsis: A brother and sister are bitten by a werewolf, and must figure out what to do before they go wild.

impressions: Slick, smart modern werewolf movie. I had just about given up on any modern horror movies being worth a damn, but this one was a pleasant surprise. It's got photogenic young stars, humor, blood and guts, and some plot twists/mysteries to keep you guessing. It succeeds on all levels.

things to watch for: The fight in the nightclub near the end.

something this movie has that no other movie has: A werewolf flipping off some humans.

acting: Christina Ricci is the sister, who's smart yet has problems of her own. Jessie Eisenberg is the brother, who suffers from the normal issues of a male teenager. There are several other young actors and actresses in supporting roles; I suspect that most of them had other roles in recent TV dramas, but that's just a hunch.

final word: Good werewolf movie, worth watching.
