The DaVinci Code
release year: 2006
genre: drama/action
viewing setting: hotel room PPV, 9/1/06
synopsis: An American professor and a French policewoman must figure out an ancient riddle while avoiding various assassins.
impressions: This was okay, but be warned: if you don't know your religious history (like me) you may get confused. There were multiple plot points which I didn't understand the significance of, and a few cases where things seemed contrived.
something this movie has that no other movie has: An assassin so driven by his faith that he finds the need to whip himself.
acting: Tom Hanks looks worried almost every moment he's on screen. Audrey Tautou does a good job as the Frenchwoman. Ian McKellen is great as an older professor-type with an interest in the secret. Jean Reno is just plain mean as a French cop.
final word: Honestly, I didn't see what all the buzz was about.
