Death Race 2000

release year: 1975
genre: action/sci-fi cheese
viewing setting: home DVD, 4/24/99
what I expected: n/a - I'd seen it several times before
what I got: Total parody of sports, broadcasting, and the nation's love of violence.

synopsis: It's time for the Trans-Continental Road Race, where pedestrians are worth bonus points. Need I say more?

impressions: This is classic cheese. It's a total parody, with intentionally corny lines and actions, garishly decorated race-cars, corny drivers, and most importantly, bonus point categories for pedestrians who get in the way. You have to pay attention or you'll miss little nuggets of good cheese.

body count: at least a dozen, but several of them were good and bloody

acting: David Carradine: the lord of cheese here. Stallone also had a good ham-it-up role.

the good: Lots of laugh-out-loud parts.

the bad: Since it's intentionally cheesy, it's not watchable in a lot of circumstances.

final word: This movie should be a staple in any cheese collection.

rating: B-
