Den of Thieves

synopsis: Two gangs come into conflict; one is made up of thieves planning a bank heist, the other is made up of cops.

impressions: This was a lot like Heat with some surprises and a twist. There were a lot of the same elements: skilled criminals, relentless cops led by a guy who put other things before his family, and a big shootout. And in both cases, that big shootout happens in the middle of a bunch of civilians and honestly, the police should have known better. I can't imagine that would fly in the current day and age.

acting: Gerard Butler is the leader of the tattooed, wild police team. Pablo Schreiber is the leader of the thieves. O'Shea Jackson Jr is a getaway driver with some personality.

final word: Entertaining, but grim.
