Detroit Rock City

"Check it out, man. The question you gotta ask yourself is how badly do you wanna see the greatest ****ing rock and roll show on the ****ing Earth, right?."    - scalper

release year: 1999
genre: comedy/drama
viewing setting: home DVD, 9/6/14 and 8/5/04 and also home DVD, 2/18/00 and theater, 8/25/99

synopsis: It's 1978 and four teenagers are determined to see a KISS concert, no matter what it takes.

impressions: I thought it was hilarious, but I can see how people who don't like the music of the period, or who don't like KISS, won't even be able to pay attention to the movie. It mixed insane situations, loud music, and good dialogue into something that was pretty fun to watch. Aside from the main quest to see their favorite band live, the four teenagers must also deal with other side problems (crush on neighbor, fear of being on stage, overbearing mother, etc.)

something this movie has that no other movie has: Ron Jeremy DJ-ing a male dance contest.

acting: The four kids who played the four kids did good jobs; Edward Furlong (from T2) was the ringleader. The lady who played the religious zealot mother was over-the-top.

final word: Funny, but your mileage may vary; if you're a KISS fan, go see it now.
