Dinocroc vs Supergator

"Alligators and crocodiles are mortal enemies. I say we get them together, make them fight."   - Logan

release year: 2010
genre: giant monster horror/action/comedy
viewing setting: home DVD, 9/10/21

synopsis: Not one but TWO giant mutated reptiles are on the loose.

impressions: This delivered pretty much exactly what it promised: cheesy giant monster action x2, with a fight between the two leads near the end. Both of those monsters were bulletproof (which didn't stop various characters from continuing to shoot at them as if it would matter) and they also both looked pretty decent. Initially, we had some trouble telling which was which, until my wife hit upon it: "the dinocroc runs on two legs like a dinosaur, while the supergator bounds on all fours like a happy dog." Yes. Another good quote from her: "You know, screaming's not gonna help." Other notable elements: people fleeing the safety of a bulding for the outdoors after one of the monsters breaks loose, a variety of different characters with their own quirks and motivations, the waterfall of death, lots of bikini-clad food for the monsters, someone theorizing that aliens caused the cattle carcass they found, a ripoff of the Jurassic Park jeep chase scene, a sudden gathering of most of the main characters in a hospital room, the hot tub of doom, a bouncy upllifting soundtrack, Supergator hanging out in the abandoned hotel, Supergator pouncing on the tour bus, a needless sacrifice, the big battle at 1:19 which lasts less than three minutes, interesting battle tactics by both monsters, the groundwork for a sequel (at least for Dinocroc.)

confirmed dinocroc kills: 8, plus up to 3 more unverified

confirmed supergator kills: 9, plus a bus

other kills: 2 by gun, 1 crushed by falling wall, 1 by lethal injection, 1 by heart attack

acting: Rib Hillis (who's been in a number of these) is the hunter-tracker main hero while Corey Landis is the other main hero (who's more an engineer than man of action.) Amy Rasimas is the park ranger type heroine. David Carradine has some screen time as the evil corporate guy behind everything.

final word: Competently done and very entertaining.
