Doctor Odyssey, season 1 (18 episodes)

release year: 2024-25
genre: drama/comedy
viewing setting: home streaming 6/20/25 - 7/13/25)

synopsis: This series features the challenges (both professional and personal) of a three-person medical team aboard a luxury cruise ship.

impressions:  This was really entertaining. As I said above, there are both the normal problems (which come with each themed cruise week) and the interpersonal ones between the doctor and the two nurses. I'll add that they don't skimp on the blood and gore as various medical issues are dealt with! Brief episode teasers:
(1) - pilot episode, introducing the main characters
(2) - singles week
(3) - plastic surgery week
(4) - wellness week (featuring a major surgery during a bad storm)
(5) - Halloween week
(6) - a wedding cruise
(7) - gay week
(8) - quacker week
(9/10) - a shark attack, a sinking boat, more sharks, angry orcas, and other problems
(11) - casino week, and a heist
(12) - cougar week
(13) - spring break week
(14) - cheerleader week
(15) - crew week (no guests)
(16) - "traditional wives" and "independent women" on a double-booked cruise week
(17/18) - a multiple-wedding cruise goes awry when a tsunami hits

acting: Joshua Jackson is the new (head) doctor, and brings a lot of life wisdom and some good bedside manner to the team. Phillipa Soo is the younger female nurse, whose personal desires sometimes cause issues. Sean Teale is the younger male nurse, who enjoys the hell out of the cruising life when he can. Don Johnson is the ship's seasoned captain. There are several notable guest-stars across the season too.

final word: Fairly entertaining, although I could have done without the complicated love triangle; if there isn't a second season, they wrapped this one up pretty well
