Doctor Strange

At the root of existence, mind and matter meet. Thoughts form reality. This universe is only one of an infinite number. Worlds without end; some benevolent and life-giving, others filled with malice and hunger. Dark places where powers older than time lie, ravenous and waiting. Who are you in this vast multiverse, Mr. Strange?" - the Ancient One

release year: 2016
genre: mystical superhero action/drama
viewing setting: home Bluray, 3/3/17

synopsis: A crippled surgeon's quest for healing leads him into a hidden world of magic and danger.

impressions: Another superhero masterpiece. This film does a great job of introducing a new hero, complete with great background, motivations, and training. There's magic of course, but also fighting action and some good humor. The special effects are top-notch and the acting is great on all accounts.

acting: Benedict Cumberbatch is perfect - he's got the look and does a great job in this role, as the character moves from a self-centered egomaniac to someone with a greater purpose. Chiwetel Ejiofor is another sorceror who helps him along, and his character also undergoes some changes during the movie. Tilda Swinton is the really old and wise master wiard. Mads Mikkelsen is the bad guy, who wants immortality and power via an otherworldly entity. Rachel McAdams is a doctor who works with Strange and had a previous romantic relationship with him. Benedict Wong is the keeper of the magical library and a dispeser of wisdom.

final word: The latest entry in Marvel Studios' winning streak.
