Dracula 2: Ascension

release year: 2003
genre: horror
viewing setting: home DVD, 12/18/03

synopsis: Some college students find Dracula's body and must decide whether to sell it and make a fortune or try to learn its secrets.

impressions: Not bad, though it wasn't as gripping as Dracula 2000. This might be because the vampire wasn't on the loose for most of the movie. The medical implications in this movie were pretty interesting, and the vampire killer was pretty cool. Note that this almost had to have been filmed at the same time as the third one (coming next year) given the ending.

things to watch for: Any of the vampire killer's battles.

something this movie has that no other movie has: A vampire-beheading whip.

acting: Craig Sheffer was damn annoying as the crippled professor. Jason Scott Lee was good as a tough vampire killer. The guy who played Dracula really didn't get many opportunities to say or do anything. The kid who collected the holy water was fairly amusing and had some good lines. The British guy was serious then annoying as he became a total coward. The redheaded girl was okay as a victim. Roy Scheider appeared for a couple of minutes as an old priest.

final word: Entertaining sequel.
