Escape Plan

"This can go two ways. You let me go, and I'll pretend this never happened. If you don't, I'll burn this ****ing place to the ground on my way out."    - Ray Breslin

release year: 2013
genre: action/adventure
viewing setting: home Bluray, 12/21/15 and 8/18/14 and 2/4/14

synopsis: An expert at breaking out of jails is illegally put into the ultimate one, and must figure out a way to escape.

impressions: This was what people had been waiting for since the 1980s: Stallone and Schwarzenegger truly co-starring in one action movie. It was pretty good, given their ages; both look great for being almost 70, both have fairly well-developed characters who both think and fight (and who are both really tough.) There are some plot twists, including one at the end that I didn't fully understand. And Arnold gets to rip a big gun off of a helicopter and go to work.

acting: Sylvester Stallone is the jail-breaking expert. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a fellow prisoner who's more than he appears. Jim Caviezel is the ruthless and amoral warden. Faran Tahir (better known as head Regent Kosan in Warehouse 13) is a foreign inmate who alternately fights and helps the main two. Rapper "50 Cent" is one of Stallone's friends on the outside. Sam Neill is a sympathetic doctor in the prison. Vincent D'Onofrio is Stallone's business partner on the outside. Vinnie Jones is a tough guard.

final word: Entertaining, though one wishes they'd have done this thirty years ago in their primes.
