Everything Everywhere All At Once

release year: 2022
genre: sci-fi drama/comedy
viewing setting: home Bluray 11/15/22

synopsis: A regular woman who's not happy with her life finds out that there are an infinite number of parallel universes out there, in which many variants of her exist...and they're threatened by something that perhaps only she can stop.

impressions: This movie was interesting, if a little difficult to follow. It's a unique take on the "multiverse" concept, but the mechanics of the different variants of people from the different multiverses seemed a bit fuzzy. I will say that there were a lot of humorous situations, and some cool action sequences, and the movie made me think. But the main thing it made me think was that I'll have to watch it a second time to try and fully understand its workings.

acting: Michelle Yeoh does a great job with a (literally) multifaceted role as someone suddenly placed into an insane situation. Stephanie Hsu is her daughter, who can't make her happy and has resulting issues. Ke Huy Quan is the husband, whose patience helps when things get tough. Jamie Lee Curtis plays wildly different variations of an IRS auditor. James Hong is the ancient but sassy grandfather.

final word: Odd, convoluted; may require further analysis.
