Exit Wounds

release year: 2001
genre: cop action
viewing setting: home DVD, 10/22/01
what I expected: maybe something better from Steven Seagal
what I got: pretty good action movie

synopsis: A maverick cop gets mixed up in big drug deals and crooked cops.

impressions: In addition to lots of fighting and car chases, this movie had some plot twists that really threw me for a loop. I can't say much more without giving anything away. It seemed that the last one-third or so was rushed, and maybe even the victim of a changed-at-the-last-minute script. As for Seagal, he was in pretty good fighting form and had a distinct lack of the preachy attitude that ruined some of his recent films. I should note that a lot of the bad guys in this movie were supposed to be able to fight, and did - Seagal had some tough fights this time, not like in his early movies where he was unstoppable.

acting: Decent, nothing outstanding here. Tom Arnold was a good semi-comic relief character. The overweight rapper guy was funny. Make sure to watch the end credits!

final word: Best Seagal movie in a while, and good action scenes and plot too. Worth seeing.
