Extraction

Nik: "That's not the job."
Rake: "The job is fucked."

release year: 2020
genre: action
viewing setting: home streaming 1/7/24

synopsis: A mercenary sets out to rescue a hostage, but then gets betrayed and must escape a city in which every single person is hostile.

impressions: While there was some degree of character-building (the main hero bonding with the hostage kid) and a few slow parts, they were brief. This was a John Wick style action film...people moving fast, shooting or stabbing or punching fast, and getting wounded but having to push on. Some of the fight scenes were hard to follow due to their speed, which is both good and bad. But overall, this was solid and violent mayhem.

acting: Chris Hemsworth is the mercenary who sometimes seems to have a death wish. Randeep Hooda is the other guy trying to get the kid back, and he's just as dangerous. Rudhraksh Jaiswal is that kid, who gradually becomes more able to deal with what's happening. Golshifteh Farahani is another mercenary who's deadly with a sniper rifle. Priyanshu Painyuli is the evil drug lord behind the initial kidnapping, and all further violence. David Harbour has a minor role as an old friend of the main guy.

final word: Good, fast-moving action and violence extravaganza.
