The Fast and the Furious

"I live my life a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters - not the mortgage, not the store, not my team and all their bullshit. For those ten seconds or less, I'm free."   - Dom

release year: 2001
genre: racing action
viewing setting: home Bluray 12/28/16

synopsis: An undercover cop tries to infitrate the wild and fast-paced world of street racing in order to foil a group of high-speed robbers.

impressions: I'd never seen any of these and then one day I saw the entire 7-film series at a great price, so...here we are. This definitely had its share of high-speed action and souped-up cars, with an underlying crime plot. At times, it could have been "The Fast and the Foolish" because some characters did things for no apparent reason, but I can let that go. It was entertaining for sure.

acting: Vin Diesel is tough and charismatic as the leader of the racing gang. Paul Walker is the young, out-of-place kid who likes to race and wants to prove himself to both the gang and his police superiors. Michelle Rodriguez is Diesel's girlfriend, who can talk tough, punch people, and also race. (Come to think of it, EVERYONE in this movie possesses the ability to race cars.) Jordana Brewster is Diesel's sister, who develops a romance with Walker. Chad Linberg is the young genius car-builder member of the gang. Matt Schulze is another member who antagonizes Walker's character.

final word: It's fast, and it's furious, and while foolish, it's also entertaining.
