The Fifth Element

"What's the use in saving life when you see what you do with it?"   - Leeloo

release year: 1997
genre: sci-fi/drama
viewing setting: home Bluray 1/7/17 and other times in the late 1990s

synopsis: In the future, a cab driver gets involved in a plot to save the Earth.

impressions: This is somewhat over-the-top sci-fi. It has equal doses of science fiction, action, humor, and craziness. It's entertaining, but just...odd. Sometimes, people say or do things for no sensible reason.

acting: Bruce Willis plays it low-key and tough, as usual; at times, his character doesn't seem to care what's going on. Gary Oldman is way over the top as the bad guy, and similarly, Chris Tucker is way over-the-top as a celebrity host of some sort. Milla Jovovich is the alien warrior-girl who holds the key to saving the planet.

final word: Entertaining, but odd.
