Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter

release year: 1984
genre: horror
viewing setting: home Bluray 12/19/22 and several more times from the 1990s and 1980s

synopsis: Mass murderer Jason Voorhees, thought to be killed previously, returns to life and then to the vicinity of his earlier activities.

impressions: This one was solid. Once we get past Jason not actually being dead (which wasn't explained, but also wasn't dealt with for long) it's back to the Camp Crystal Lake area and a cabin full of teenagers, as well as the happy family next door. This one had not one but two dorks (!) as well as some of the best-looking victims in the series. Other noteworthy elements here: the ultimate spaz dance...hot twins...a campuer/hunter guy who's out to find Jason and avenge his slain sister...someone going skinny-dipping in the middle of the night for no reason...a dog...Jason smashing through a door...an unmasked Jason for the third film in a row...and what appears to be a real, final death for Jason.

body count: 14 confirmed.

notable kills: speargun to the groin, cleaver to the face, axe to the chest

acting: Kimberly Beck is the main girl, who (as is typical for such) keeps her cool better than others during a Jason rampage. A young Corey Feldman is her little brother, who looks and acts weird. E. Erich Anderson is the hunter-guy looking to avenge his sister. Crispin Glover is the first dork, who engages in a dance that will always live in infamy on Youtube. Lawrence Monoson is the other dork, who thinks he's cool but turns out to be more of a loser. Camilla and Carey More are the hot twins.

final word: Entertaining, and one of the stronger entries in the series.
